Despite the weather forecast for rain Rome woke up this morning to clear blue skies and sun already promising another hot day. At 8:15 the Chapter delegates came together in the chapel of the General Curia for morning Mass prepared and animated by the Delegation of Europe. The celebration began with a joyful moment as the Word of God was carried in procession to the lectern accompanied by dance and song. At the sign of peace the Sisters expressed their desire to go out and accept the other by exchanging small national flags of the country (countries) they represent here at the Chapter. This too was a joyful moment as it brought us to meet the gaze of the other with bright smiles.
After this we met in the Chapter Room and , after the main information points (logistics, liturgy, how to obtain books and religious articles of the Institute, Institute Communications etc.) our facilitator, Brother Turu invited the Chapter Sisters to introduce themselves and the countries they represent. Then he had us relax and play together, firstly by lining up in order of age and then playing a kind of “bingo “ based on asking each other about some personal characteristics. All this helped us to get to know each other a little better.
In the afternoon the process of getting to know each other continued in small groups as we thought about what “baggage” we had carried with us to the Chapter. All the Sisters shared openly their reflections on this question.
This day of intense sharing aimed at knowing one another and opening our hearts to the global nature of our Institute, ended with a time of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
