Brisbane – More than 1,200 young people from across Australia took part in the Ignite Conference, the annual Catholic gathering held from 24 to 27 September. For four days, they shared moments of prayer, formation and fraternity, united by the desire to encounter Christ and to deepen their journey of faith.
The initiative offered participants the opportunity to step back from their daily commitments and devote time to the spiritual dimension of life. Many travelled long distances to reach Brisbane: some arrived with their parish groups and youth ministry communities, while others attended individually, finding opportunities to build new connections.
Throughout the days, the young people took part in times of praise, song and silent adoration. They also listened to personal testimonies and reflections on faith, vocation and the challenges of Christian life in the contemporary world. Through the speakers’ contributions, they were able to reflect on their own experience and began to question God’s call in their lives.
The presence of stands representing different ecclesial realities enabled participants to learn about opportunities for service in the Church and in society. Engaging with these organisations offered inspiration for involvement in parish life, missionary activities, solidarity projects and other forms of apostolate, to be continued on their return to their own communities.
Alongside the official programme, informal gatherings fostered new friendships and strengthened existing bonds. Young people from different regions were able to share experiences, questions and difficulties, recognising themselves as part of a community that accompanies them on their journey of faith.
The Ignite Conference thus provided an opportunity to deepen one’s relationship with God and renew one’s Christian commitment, with the invitation to bring into daily life, families and parishes all that was experienced during the four days.
