(Rome) – The Canossian Daughters of Charity are pleased to share, with joy and gratitude, a new initiative: the Online Formation Programme on the Spirituality of Saint Josephine Bakhita and the Canossian Charism.
The initiative arises from two events that invite us to rediscover the gift of Mother Bakhita’s life for the Church and for the world: she has been chosen as one of the patron saints of World Youth Day Seoul 2027. Mother Bakhita is described as a saint who was able to transform pain into love and to share hope even in suffering. We find ourselves in the 80th anniversary of her passing to eternal life: indeed, 2027 will mark eight decades since the death of Mother Bakhita — a special occasion to honour her witness of faith and holiness.
Bakhita’s story — that of a woman who transformed slavery into freedom, suffering into hope, and silence into a song of love — continues to have much to say to us today. The formation programme aims to deepen understanding of the life, spirituality and witness of Saint Josephine Bakhita, to help discover and share the richness of the Canossian Charism, and to prepare young people, children and the whole Christian community to live WYD 2027 fruitfully.
The sessions will be held online, once a month, on the following dates: 24 October 2026, 21 November 2026, 12 December 2026, 23 January 2027, 13 February 2027, 20 March 2027, 24 April 2027 and 22 May 2027.
The programme is open to Sisters and lay people involved in youth and vocational ministry, catechesis, education and other apostolic services, as well as to anyone who wishes to be inspired by Bakhita’s witness.
