(Verona) – “The future is in your hands.” An encouragement, a wish, a hope that we would like to see come true in the life of every person, but especially in the lives of so many young men and women across the world.
The Bakhita Vocational Training Centre in Bukoba (Tanzania) welcomes around a hundred girls and women each year who, through short or year-long courses in Tailoring, Computer Studies and Typing, seek to acquire valuable skills that are much sought after by local businesses and trades. Keeping the various pieces of workshop equipment efficient and up to date is impossible for the Canossian Sisters, given the students’ very limited capacity to contribute towards costs. Sr Catherine Balikuddembe Nabisere, the centre’s director, now considers it essential to completely renew the Computer Studies workshop and replace the old sewing machines, which are outdated and often not working, in order to ensure adequate training suited to technological progress and to secure a working future for the students.
An upgrade of equipment that is also a renewal of the goal of forming minds and training hands, so that young people and women can shape and mould their own working future.
There are hands held out, waiting to be grasped, stories told that hope to be heard, needs expressed that we would like to meet together. As far as possible, the future of others also lies in the hands of each one of us.
