(Dili) – A committed group of fifteen young adults have formed a new VOICA Timor-Leste group in Dili. This group is dedicated to serving those in need, promoting the values of faith, charity, solidarity and respect for all through social, educational and pastoral activities. Members also desire to bear witness to Christ through voluntary service within the community.
The group only re-launched in February 2026, and since then members have gathered for various opportunities to share together, planning for future service activities. In addition, they travelled to pray the rosary at the families of each of the VOICA members, highlighting the importance of their faith in helping others. In fact, this activity of praying the rosary led to some other family members also joining VOICA Timor-Leste!
Members of VOICA Timor-Leste were also actively involved in the recent Canonical Visit of the General Council, collaborating together with the Sisters in preparation and various moments of celebration. During the Canonical Visit, they had a chance to meet with Sr Melissa, General Council Reference for VOICA. She shared with them stories of various other VOICA volunteers on mission throughout our Canossian world, as well as encouraging them to continue their journey of formation so that they can truly make a difference to those they encounter in their various voluntary activities.
The heart of VOICA Timor-Leste was clearly expressed by Jimmy, the group leader who concluded the meeting with Sr Melissa with these words: “We believe that volunteering is not just about giving our time, but about sharing love, hope, and compassion with others. As members of VOICA Timor-Leste, we are committed to serving with dedication, responsibility, and the Canossian spirit”.
