On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Canossa Jeevan Vikas Kendra hosted a meaningful programme of awareness-raising and shared reflection, designed to foster a culture of inclusion and to affirm the dignity, abilities, and rights of persons with disabilities. The event stood as a clear expression of community solidarity, fully aligned with the educational and social mission of the Canossian charism.
A Well-Attended and Vibrant Gathering
The day brought together 60 persons with various disabilities, welcomed alongside their families, caregivers, volunteers, and representatives of partner organisations who collaborate regularly with the centre. In total, approximately 200 participants animated the programme, transforming the gathering into a vivid testimony of openness, hospitality, and shared responsibility.
Such strong participation is more than a numerical indication; it reflects a community that recognises the value of journeying together, of embracing diversity not as a burden but as a gift.
Paths of Awareness and Inclusive Activities
The programme was thoughtfully designed to offer a space for formation and relationship-building, comprising interactive workshops, cooperative activities, guided sessions, and moments of listening and exchange.
Through these experiences, participants were encouraged to reflect on themes such as human dignity, the potential for personal autonomy, and the essential rights of persons with disabilities.
Testimonies shared by several participants and their families offered a grounded insight into daily challenges, but also into the strength, resilience, and deep desire for full participation in community life that characterise many persons with disabilities.
A Canossian Perspective: Human Promotion and Compassionate Presence
The work carried out at Canossa Jeevan Vikas Kendra is rooted in the long tradition of the Canossian Daughters of Charity, who for many years have stood alongside the most vulnerable, providing support, guidance, and holistic formation.
The event highlighted how the charism of St Magdalene of Canossa, grounded in practical love and attentive care for those most in need, continues to bear fruit today—especially in contexts where vulnerability risks being overlooked or unseen.
A Celebration Committed to the Future
At the close of the day, the Sisters and centre coordinators expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the high level of participation and for the atmosphere of joy and mutual respect that permeated the event. All affirmed a renewed commitment to the future: to continue building a community that is just, accessible, and welcoming, where every person may feel recognised and supported.
The strong sense of unity experienced throughout the gathering now serves as an encouragement to persevere with renewed dedication in the centre’s educational and social mission.
