The Institute of the Canossian Daughters of Charity took part in the Jubilee of the Educational World, held from 30 October to 1 November, presenting its educational mission — a true hallmark of the Canossian charism and a living legacy of St Magdalene of Canossa’s vision, who was among the first to understand that education is the key to freeing people from poverty.

In particular, the Canossian Sisters, supported by the Communications Team, took part in two highlights of the Jubilee programme: The Constellations of Educational Networks, hosted in the Aula Paolo X on Via della Conciliazione, and The School of the Heart, held in the evocative setting of San Lorenzo in Piscibus.

Small yet precious, San Lorenzo in Piscibus is one of the most intimate and charming churches in the heart of Rome — a hidden gem nestled between the streets running parallel to Via della Conciliazione. Its simplicity and quiet atmosphere invite reflection and prayer, creating a space where every word and every song seem to resonate with a unique spiritual depth.

The first event, The Constellations of Educational Networks, was conceived as a kind of fair of Catholic education, where various congregations dedicated to formation presented their educational work through stands built entirely from recycled materials. Throughout the event, each group was given a slot for short talks — the Canossian presentation was particularly well received and warmly applauded.

The stand of the Institute of the Canossian Daughters of Charity, coordinated by Mother Melissa Dwyer, General Councillor, and Mother Liliana Ugoletti, Director of the Canossian Foundation VOICA — who also led the talk — attracted great interest. Through two well-designed roll-up panels, a video on Canossian schools around the world, printed materials, and above all the personal testimonies of the Sisters, the Institute showcased both the Italian experience of ENAC (click here to learn more), dedicated to vocational training, and the international network that extends from disadvantaged countries to the world’s great metropolitan cities.

At San Lorenzo in Piscibus, the Canossian Sisters then led an hour of prayer and reflection inspired by Magdalene of Canossa, enriched with songs and guitar accompaniment.

“It was a wonderful oppprtunity for the Canossian Sisters to be part of the Jubilee of education, joining with other congregations to share the educational vision of St Magdalene. Magdalene’s emphasis on formation of hearts for life remains such an important message for the youth of today in our Canossian educational presence around the world” said Mother Melissa.

Mother Liliana added:

“These were two very special days, lived in an atmosphere of serenity and genuine sharing among participants and visitors alike. It was a true celebration of the value of education — not an escape from reality, but the courage to bear witness together to how it is possible to be well-informed, to take part actively, and to grow by promoting the common good. It was an embrace between generations and cultures, all united by the desire to draw freely from this generous, patient and loving gift that is education. A journey that continues — a new adventure of shared growth.”

The Jubilee of Education was therefore a precious occasion to share the Canossian charism and to give voice to the dedication of the Sisters and lay collaborators who, in every corner of the world, work tirelessly to offer children a peaceful future — one in which they can dream freely and make those dreams come true.
