Awaiting Departure: The Season of Commitment
In the interim, the volunteers are anything but idle. On the contrary, they are energetically engaged in a series of fundraising initiatives—critical to the tangible realization of the projects awaiting them in the field. Each euro raised signifies a concrete step toward fulfilling their mission objectives and is a visible sign of the support extended by friends, families, and their wider communities.
The first fruits of these efforts are already evident: in Malawi, the funds have enabled the preliminary stages of repainting the local hospital—an endeavour that will be completed on-site by the volunteers themselves. Meanwhile, the group preparing for Brazil is organizing a solidarity dinner to be held on July 12 in Legnano, with the goal of raising additional resources for their mission.
Voices of Hope: testimonies from those about to depart

“My name is Sara, and I can’t wait to leave for my volunteer mission in Brazil. I chose this journey as a way to reset—to rediscover joy in the little things and to live an authentic experience. I want to be of service to others, to listen, to learn, and to grow. I believe that helping those in need is the truest way to feel fully alive. I am ready to be surprised by every encounter, every smile.”
Zaccaria
“My name is Zaccaria, and I’m truly excited to set off for this volunteer mission in Brazil. Amidst the busyness of work and daily life, I feel a strong need to do something not just for myself. This is a precious opportunity to slow down, to take stock, and to genuinely learn how to help others. I want to challenge myself, step out of my comfort zone, and live an experience that will leave a lasting mark.”
“I’m Chiara, and this summer I’ve chosen to embark on a volunteer journey to Brazil, driven by a deep desire to dedicate my time to those in need. I believe it’s one of the most beautiful experiences one can live—giving oneself to others without expecting anything in return. Doing this in another part of the world makes it even more special, opening doors to new cultures and meaningful exchanges. Two years ago, I had a similar experience in Africa, and ever since, I’ve felt a powerful call to continue this path. Every step is a shared journey of growth.”
Alberto
“I’m Alberto. For me, going to Brazil on this volunteer mission means leaving my comfort zone and encountering realities vastly different from my own. I’ve chosen to dedicate my time to a project that, even in its smallness, can have a real and tangible impact. I believe it is important not to remain passive observers—but to act, to be present, to do our part. After an experience in Africa two years ago, I felt the need to recommit myself. Each journey is a challenge—but also a unique chance to grow.”

“In two months, we will arrive in Brazil. I prepare myself with an open heart for the newness God has prepared for us—making room for faces, stories, and experiences—and allowing myself to be touched by the Canossian life that burns brightly in Piabetá. I hope to accompany Sara, Chiara, Zaccaria, and Alberto with joy and simplicity, and to bear witness to their journey.”
“I chose to take part in the VOICA proposal out of a desire to understand, in a concrete way, cultures different from our own—not as a tourist, but as an active participant in daily life, sharing experiences and human connections.”

“In preparation for this mission, we’ve undertaken practical, cultural, and spiritual training. Personally, I’ve reflected deeply on my reasons for going, and now I’m immersing myself in the local culture. Together with the others, we’re finalizing what we’ll bring to support the mission.”
“I’m setting off for Malawi with the desire to be useful and to experience a true exchange. I want to challenge myself, discover a new culture, and step beyond the familiar. I believe this journey will help me grow and broaden my view of the world.”

“Turning 50, I felt it was time to step out of my comfort zone. I decided to make a change in my life’s path, turning to the Canossian Sisters through VOICA, confident they would guide me toward a journey of self-giving. I believe this will be a profound opportunity for personal and human growth—but above all, a chance to experience LOVE and SOLIDARITY through service. Pope Francis said that volunteering is the challenge of stepping out to help others—and I, the most ‘senior’ in the group, feel ready to step out: with an open heart, an outstretched hand, and feet prepared for the journey.”

“I’m going to listen to stories different from my own, to learn that love has no borders and that happiness is simpler than we think. I hope to grow, to meet people who will teach me the true meaning of sharing, and to return with renewed gratitude for life.”
Michelangelo
“I’m setting out with the hope of leaving a mark, even a small one, and of being transformed by encounters with others. I’m certain I’ll come back with more than I gave—because in every shared smile there is fraternity, and in every act, a lesson in life.”

“My heart is joyful as we prepare for the mission in Malawi. I am grateful for my team: Stefania, Federica, Michelangelo, Matteo, Diletta, and Benedetta. I wish for all of us an experience of friendship, joy, and service that takes us beyond comfort and self. May VOICA continue to inspire young people, as it has, to live with joy and generosity. VOICA cares!“
The Canossian Foundation VOICA continues to represent a truly extraordinary opportunity for young people and adults who wish to serve, embracing the missionary dimension with a spirit of fraternity, listening, and shared humanity.
Through practical, cultural, and spiritual preparation, each participant is undergoing a quiet transformation—readying themselves to welcome new faces, stories, and perspectives. The wider community is warmly invited to support and accompany these volunteers on their path—with prayer, encouragement, and active participation—helping to let the Canossian Charism shine brightly: “Above all, make Jesus known”—He who gives Himself wholly in love.
