In our previous article we shared the story of Biaisha, who at the “Bakhita” Vocational Training Centre began transforming her dream of becoming a fashion designer into a profession.

Like her, many other young women arrive at the Centre with hidden talents and very few opportunities to develop them.

One of them is Dativa, a young woman who discovered at the Centre the chance to shape her future.

“I found a path for my future”

“My name is Dativa, and I am a former student of the ‘Bakhita’ Vocational Training Centre in Bukoba, Tanzania.

Because of my family’s financial difficulties, I had to leave primary school early. For a time, I felt stuck — as if I were simply waiting for an opportunity to change my future.”

That opportunity arrived when she discovered the “Bakhita” Centre.

There, she was finally able to turn what had once been only a dream into something real: becoming a professional hair stylist.

When talent finds the space to grow

Through the training she received, Dativa developed strong technical skills, learning how to create a variety of hairstyles that respond to the tastes and needs of her clients.

She also developed precision, creativity and the ability to work confidently with the public.

But the most important change was something deeper.

For Dativa, the “Bakhita” Centre became a light — a place where she could recognise her own talent and truly believe in her potential.

Today, she braids hair with confidence and passion, turning each gesture into another step towards independence.

A message for other young women

To girls who, like her, are still searching for their path, Dativa offers a message filled with hope:

“Do not lose hope and believe in your own value. With commitment, training and the right guidance, dreams can become professions, and difficulties can turn into opportunities.”

An opportunity that changes many lives

Like Biaisha, Josephina and Ivetha, Dativa’s story shows how education and vocational training can become a real pathway towards independence and dignity.

Each year, the “Bakhita” Vocational Training Centre offers short and annual courses to around one hundred young women who lack adequate financial support.

With your help, we can improve the Centre’s spaces and training materials, giving many more girls the opportunity to learn a profession, build their independence and realise their dreams.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for whatever you may choose to do.
