Summary of the initiative
Children in the rural villages of Payakaraopeta, in the Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh (India), grow up in an extremely difficult socio-family context. The poor quality of primary schools and the illiteracy of parents do not offer them an adequate educational and formation itinerary. In order to offer a better future to these young lives, Sr. Thankam John has started 7 Evening Study Help Centres in as many villages that today welcome 300 boys and girls helped by 12 teachers.
Each of them will continue to be provided with a complete kit of teaching materials (pens, pencils, colours, notebooks and rulers), as well as biscuits and chocolate that are distributed at each meeting. Alongside are trained teachers who help them to recuperate the subjects in which they have problems, do their homework, encourage them to study and improve more and more. Day after day, month after month, they will be able to continue profitably on their path of literacy and human growth.
