In many rural villages across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, in eastern and southeastern India, being a woman still often means facing significant social and economic disadvantages. Limited access to education, restricted opportunities for independence, and deeply rooted social inequalities continue to affect the lives of many women, reducing their chances of shaping a different future.

Early marriages, lack of property rights, and situations of abuse or violence remain challenges in several communities, contributing to the marginalization of women and limiting their participation in social and economic life.

Since the early 2000s, the Canossian Sisters have chosen to be present in these communities, sharing daily life and walking alongside the most vulnerable women. Their work goes beyond immediate assistance and focuses on long-term change. Through self-help groups, training and skills development programs, community awareness initiatives, and microcredit opportunities, the Sisters support women in building economic independence and personal confidence.

The goal is clear: to accompany women on a path toward greater awareness and autonomy, enabling them to become active agents in their own lives, make informed decisions, and build a future with dignity and hope.
