We are pleased to share the story of Omar, a Mexican child who, thanks to the Canossian Sisters, has embarked on a journey of renewal and personal growth that is helping him face life with confidence and hope.

“Hello, my name is Omar.

I am 12 years old and I am from Chihuahua, Mexico. My family is made up of my mother, two sisters, and my little brother, the youngest. My father does not live with us, so we are just the five of us.

I arrived at the Morelos Educational Centre in 2021 with a rather complex diagnosis that caused significant difficulties in communication, personal interaction and, as a result, learning.

The separation of my parents certainly did not help my already fragile balance, but despite my many challenges, the Canossian Sisters found a way to reach me, helping me to bring out and express my empathy. Thanks to them, and to the support of generous and understanding donors who recognised and welcomed my uniqueness, I was also able to receive therapeutic and medical support, which made my progress possible.

Within just a few years, my mum witnessed a great change in me: from a world of silent hyperactivity, I became a real chatterbox, full of questions and with a much stronger ability to express myself.

Thanks to this journey of resilience, I have been able to build positive relationships with my classmates, teachers and my family. With the support of therapy, school and my strong desire to learn, my self-confidence has grown — and for this, I am deeply grateful.”
