(Lomé) – Agoè-Kové is a vibrant, densely populated suburb on the outskirts of Lomé, the capital of Togo. It is expanding rapidly and has a very young population.
Sophie, aged 19, lives here with her two brothers.
In recent years, she has lost both parents within a few years of each other, and the pain of their loss has been immense. Responsibility for the family has therefore fallen on her young shoulders. As well as continuing her studies, she has had to take on the care of her seven-year-old brother. Her older brother can do little to help, as he does not have the financial means to provide for them.
In 2015, the Canossian Sisters in Lomé enrolled Sophie in their child sponsorship programme to help her continue her education, as her parents were both in poor health.
Finally, in 2022, a benefactor came into her life and began supporting her. Today, despite the difficulties she has faced, Sophie has reached university and is preparing to begin her second year.
Sophie’s story shows what a person can achieve when someone reaches out with practical support.
Supporting disadvantaged children, helping them grow and gain the knowledge and skills they need to work towards a concrete goal in life, is within our reach. A small but meaningful gesture can truly make a difference.
Support the Canossian Foundation VOICA – ETS and the work of the Canossian Sisters in Togo.
Thank you from Sister Elisabeth, Sophie and all the children who will be able to count on your help.
