(Kinshasa) – There is news that carries hope, dignity, and a future. In February, the Canossian Sisters of the “Sacred Heart” community in Kinshasa, DR Congo, shared with deep joy the fulfilment of a long-awaited milestone: the well has finally become a reality.

In the DR Congo, given the difficult context marked by internal conflict, widespread poverty, and stark social inequalities, water is not always a guaranteed right, but a scarce and costly resource.

This is the case in the Musiangu neighbourhood, in Kimbondo – Mont-Ngafula, where the Sisters’ community is located. Here, there is no running water in the homes, and there are no public water points either: obtaining water every day is a challenge that requires time, resources, and great effort.

Since its foundation, the Canossian Community in Kinshasa has sought perseveringly to address this difficulty. Rainwater was collected in two underground cisterns and then transferred to an elevated tank, intended to supply the sanitary facilities and kitchens. However, during periods of low rainfall, this reserve proved insufficient. Moreover, as this water was not drinkable, the Sisters always had to obtain another source, both during the dry season and for daily consumption.

Today, however, something has changed.

Thanks to the generous solidarity and support of all those who believed in this project, from now on the seventy-five children at the school, the Sisters of the community, and around one hundred families in the area will be able to draw from a safe and vital source of clean water.

This is not only an infrastructure project, but a fundamental step in safeguarding health, social justice, and collective well-being.

This well is a symbol of hope, collaboration, and concrete change.

A heartfelt thank you to all the people who made this final success possible.

Together, many dreams of collective redemption can become reality.
